The class is only available to members who have successfully passed Basic Obedience class.
The Intermediate class takes the basic skills to the next level, expanding many of the skills that were learnt in the Basic class. We introduce the three D’s: distance, duration, and distraction. Exploring the three D’s will equip you and your dog with the skills essential for the dog’s success.
At the end of the course owners will:
- Demonstrate legal requirements – have dog’s registration tag and poo bags.
- Demonstrate responsible owner knowledge – answer five random questions.
At the end of the course dogs must be able to:
- Ignore people/dogs.
- Give attention on cue.
- Accept restraint by collar.
- Down stay for 30 seconds.
- Accept tethering and a stranger walking past.
- Demonstrate mouth manners by politely taking a treat.
- Walk on a loose lead and sit beside owner on a verbal command.
- Accept handling of teeth, ears and both a front and rear foot by the owner.
- Allow handling of teeth, ears and both a front and rear foot by a stranger (your instructor).
- A controlled recall of at least 10 metres from a sit or down (handlers’ choice). Dog must “wait” and not be held.
