Warning: Toxic Algae in Manawatu River

An article printed in the Manawatu Evening Standard on Wednesday 14 January warns that toxic algae has been found in the Upper Manawatu River (around Dannevirke) and is suspected as close into Palmerston North as the Victoria Esplanade.

Dog walkers are being urged to keep their dogs away from the water’s edge if they’re walking near rivers, and owners should keep their pets on the leash as this algae can be fatal to dogs if they scavenge the edge of the river and eat the algae.

The algae can be distinguished by it’s slimy black appearance.

2008 Obedience Championship Show Results

The TADTC Obedience Championship was held on the first sunny weekend in nearly three months, which certainly made for an enjoyable event.

TADTC would like to say a big thank you to all the people who helped make the show a success.

Firstly to our judges – Ruth Deacon, Paula Holmes, Dennis Rodgers, Mark Thornton, June Rippon, Meredith Pitcher, Sue Cooper – and stewards – Ted Willis, Stephen Harris, Kelvin Howell, Murray Aamodt, Tony Martin, Robyn How.

Thanks also to Norm Claude for being Test Manager for us once again.  Although not a committee member this year, Anthea Finlayson kindly volunteered to coordinate everything as Show Secretary.

Lastly, but certainly not least, thanks to the club members and their families who helped set up, call steward, do hot scents, cater, and tidy up afterwards.

Lido’s “Dogs’ Day Out” | Postponed to 8th June

UPDATE: The Dogs’ Day Out has been postponed until Sunday 8th June, 2008.

______________________________________________________________________________

On Queen’s Birthday, Monday the 2nd June 2008, the Lido Aquatic Centre will be running its annual Dogs’ Day Out.

With last year being such a success, and plenty of smiles from all who took part, we expect this year it will only get bigger and better.

We have a large array of competitions from Fancy dress to the new Great Big Dog Walk. With competitions and family entertainment on throughout the day, and the cost for the whole day being only $5, it promises to be an entertaining day under the sun for all.

The Dogs’ Day Out activities will be held behind the Lido complex on Park Road, running from 11am to 2pm.

For more information please email andrewhansen@clmnz.co.nz, phone 06 3572684 or come in and see us at the Lido Aquatic Centre, Park Road Palmerston North.
